Soul mates

I believe in soul mates. I never quite understood the reason for it, but I think that soul mates are really just two parts of the same soul. I've heard people say that you can have more than one soul mate, though I'm not sure about that one.

I was actually told that by the girl I thought was my soul mate. I guess I still believe that she is, though I haven't seen her in several years, and haven't spoken to her in almost as long. Things didn't go so well for me and my Soul One. My belief, though, is that soul mates are parts of the same "creature." For whatever reason, they were separated, maybe to better serve whatever purpose they are here for. I don't know. I guess it's one of those things that are unknowable, before you die anyway. For myself, I know that my soul one and I share a purpose, but that purpose has to be served separately, a war on two fronts. Much as that hurt at first, I've reconciled myself to it.

As to how to tell if someone is your soul mate, I don't know if there's any hard and fast rule for it. I just knew, and the evidence sort of came out by itself to support what I knew. If you're supposed to know, you'll know. Circumstances will arrange themselves so that it becomes undeniable, so blatantly obvious that it's impossible to refute what your intuition is telling you. If you're not supposed to know, you won't. The odds are that the average person will go their entire lives without meeting their soul mate.

Maybe some people don't even have a soul mate, and they're already complete unto themselves. It's possible, I suppose. I do think that most people never meet their soul mate. I think that meeting is a special event, a quasi-cosmic event, where two parts merge, however briefly, into oneness, into their true, full power. It's a funny thing that people walk around every day as half of a being, but there you have it. When those two halves meet, only the truly blind could naysay it, and there is very little strong enough to stop them from doing anything they set their mind too (except themselves, as I learned).

Okay, this is getting pretty long-winded, so I'll cut it out. But to answer this question in a sentence, when you meet your soul mate, you won't have to ask that question, because the heavens will answer it before you even think to ask. You'll open your eyes to a brighter light, open your arms, and see that they were right. And beware, because these meetings are rarely permanent, I've found...
